1 thought on “More Coverage of our Film and Companion Book, this from LONG ISLAND!”
Jeff willets says:
I’ve enjoyed the book and and to watch the documentary. Where is it available?
I’ve always felt the sense of place in the world where history seems to be held in the buildings, rooms, landscapes which seem like repositories of human experience. So Westport, Compo and the grey cottage retain the souls of Scott and Zelda! Your work is wonderful social and literary anthropology.
I think one critical acknowledgement is missing from your thesis and it is polo. The line from Gatsby that the Buchanan’s moved from place to place “wherever people played polo and were rich together” sets the scene. This was the Gold Coast, and certainly not Fairfield County. With polo playing as Buchanan’s metier, it is the strongest reason for FSF to set the novel on Long Island.
It’s been said Tommy Hitchcock was an inspiration for Buchanan, as he was the greatest player in history, was a paragon of male stardom and lived
near Great Neck, in Old Westbury, the capitol of polo in the 1920’s.
Thanks again for the excellent book and I look forward to finding the video!
